Following the recommended vaccine protocols will help to protect your pet.  Keeping your pet’s immunizations up to date is an important part in preventing these diseases.

Canine Influenza    

     Canine Influenza is a relatively new disease. It is highly contagious, and most dogs do not show symptoms while they are shedding the virus. Canine Influenza is spread through direct contact with infected dogs, through the air and via contaminated surfaces. Signs include: lasting cough, low grade fever, nasal discharge, lack of energy, and loss of appetite. More serious symptoms can include: pneumonia, high fever, and death. Most dogs, regardless of breed or age, are at risk for Canine Influenza.

     Certain activities can raise your dog’s risk of infection even higher, such as boarding, visiting a groomer, going to dog parks, or travel with you. Protection in the form of an effective vaccine is recommendedfor these pets.

     Here at Centennial Hills Animal Hospital, we recommend that your dog be vaccinated against Canine Influenza. The Canine Influenza vaccine is now required for boarding here at Centennial Hills Animal Hospital.
